Marking her footprint in the growing community of literature in the state, Kenlumzailie Michui made her debut as an author with ‘The Choir I Conduct’ at Crescent International, Kohima on July 27.

The book was formally released by Rev Iringtie Kauring, author of “God holds the answer” and Pastor of Zeme Baptist Church, Kohima. Addressing the launch, he acknowledged that it is not easy to put our thoughts and feelings together in a written form.

Referring to the book as an outcome of hardwork and commitment of the author, he remarked that “reading brings us not only wisdom and knowledge but also provides positive benefits for mental health” by way of reducing stress in our stressful life.

The world that we live in today, flooded with so many information where our minds are engaged beyond its capacity, he underscored that “our habit of reading will certainly help us and release stressful thoughts in many ways.”

He congratulated and lauded the author for her contribution to the intellectual world. “May your talent and career in writing be a blessing to many,” he added.

During the author talk, Kenlumzailie Michui said poetry has served as a way of expressing herself while highlighting that the book is a collection of thoughts closest to her heart. “It's like a diary, and carries themes of life, facing reality, death and denia,” she put across.

Kenlumzailie Michui is a master’s graduate in English from North Eastern Hill University and has always had a passion for writing.

“The Choir I Conduct” was edited by D Paolo Nukhu and marks the 92nd publication of PenThrill Publication House.

In her publisher's note, Vishü Rita Krocha remarked that “literature is incomplete without poetry” and that, poetry is at the heart of literature. Stating that people have been writing poetry since time immemorial, she however lamented that “it has never received the appreciation it deserves”. Citing how our forefathers always had a song for every occasion, she opined that in writing poetry, writers are also keeping alive the lyrical expressions of our forefathers.

Poetry, she said, “enables a reader to experience joy, happiness, hope, laughter, and several other emotions, and also gives meaning and reason to life and captures the magnitude of life itself.”

Highlights of the event included invocation by Namkwetrangbe Michui, Book Reading by Athsoü Thele, and vote of thanks by Samdibe Michuing while Gwesy Michuing chaired the programme.
