People’s College Mokokchung commemorated International Women’s Day on March 8.

Mokokchung, March 9 (MExN): People’s College Mokokchung commemorated International Women’s Day with the theme, “Accelerate Action: a call to speak out for progress towards gender equality.”
Anuba, a fourth-semester student, delivered a speech on “Women and Their Status Quo,” tracing the journeys of women who have defied norms and significantly contributed to various fields. He underscored the importance of acknowledging women's perseverance and brilliance while urging society to challenge persisting biases.
In his keynote address, Alemjungshi from History Department spoke on “The Role of Women in Everybody’s Life.” He shed light on the struggles women continue to face, including fear and atrocities, and examined historical perspectives on women’s status. Reflecting on Indian history, he noted that women in the Rig Vedic period held positions of respect and influence, which declined over time due to societal changes.
Alemjungshi also highlighted the legacy of India's first female teacher and the challenges still faced in women’s education. He emphasized the urgent need for progress, urging women to take charge of their own advancement rather than waiting for societal change. Encouraging them to become educators, leaders, and change-makers, he called for proactive action toward gender equality.
The event concluded with a recreation session, celebrating the strength, resilience, and brilliance of women.
