Personalised attacks on present leadership motivated: NDPP Youth alleges

Calls SC Jamir’s recent commentary ‘shocking’ and ‘unbecoming’

Dimapur, April 25 (MExN): The NDPP Youth Organisation today censured recent commentary by the former Chief Minister and Governor, Dr SC Jamir on the state of affairs as ‘unbecoming and shocking,’ among others, and seemingly motivated.

The “utterances and personalised attacks on the present leadership of the state” are not only in bad taste but unbecoming and seems to be motivated with a negative agenda, the Organisation stated in a rejoinder received here.

Accusing the former Chief Minister of apparently carrying his personal grudge, the NDPP Youth also “condemned and rejected” his views questioning if the chief minister can continue in office.

The present dispensation has the overwhelming mandate of the people of Nagaland and the incumbent Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is now into his 5th tenure on the back of a massive mandate given by the electorate of Nagaland, it pointed out.

It further alleged that Dr Jamir tried his best to mislead the people during the  recent election campaign, especially in his home district.

Responding to the specific allegations made in the former Governor recent commentary, the NDPP Youth maintained that his constant opposition to the creation of new districts in Nagaland is nothing but a “total disrespect to the sentiments of the people and an undermining of the tribal sentiments of the Nagas.”

Creating of new districts are recognition of the tribal identity of the Nagas, a move towards more efficient administration and governance, including doorsteps delivery of services while the people, especially the youth, will get more opportunities and recognition, it asserted.

The organisation also charged Dr Jamir of “belittling of Chümoukedima district, where he resides” and called it shocking.

Meanwhile, it further noted that he speaks of the Naga movement being a signatory of the Statehood agreement but “remains unapologetic for authoring the Bedrock of Naga Society booklet which was rejected and condemned by all sections of the Naga people time and again.”

In addition, the NDPP Youth also termed Dr Jamir’s  commentary on the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) as shocking" as it was under his chief ministership that the State Assembly adopted the Nagaland Municipal Act in 2001.

“If he had not done so at that point of time, then we may not be faced with the present scenario,” it maintained.

He followed a policy of “equal distance from all sections” as consultations, deliberations and taking all stakeholders on board was not his approach, it asserted, alleging  that Dr Jamir “confronted one and all and was therefore boycotted by the civil societies and mass based civil organisations during his tenure.”

Speaking against the Government’s decision is an undermining of the people’s mandate as the Nagaland Assembly had taken the decision unanimously in response to the call of the tribal hohos and civil societies, the NDPP Youth asserted.
Accordingly, it stated that the present leadership is responding to the voice of the people with an approach where every citizen is a member of team Nagaland.
