Pertinent issues with regard to Lok Sabha polls preparations in Dimapur discussed

Dimapur, April 6 (MExN): To ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha Elections, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, NCS, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Dimapur, held a meeting with the AROs and nodal officers and highlighted pertinent issues with regard to LS electoral preparations in the district on April 6. 

Chang said that he has convened the meeting with the aim to streamline the coordination between various administrative bodies and stakeholders involved in the electoral process. He emphasised the significance of meticulous planning and coordination for ensuring successful conduct of the elections. 

During the meeting, various aspects relating to election management, security arrangements, voter awareness campaigns, and logistics were discussed in detail. The nodal officers and AROs were briefed on their respective roles and responsibilities for effective execution in the election-related tasks.

Assistant Election Officer Toshimongba Longchar informed that essential services personnel and another group facilitated by AVSC by AVPD will be casting their votes through postal ballots from April 8 to 10 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. Additionally, a house-to-house voting process will be conducted for the latter group during the same period.

Longchar also informed that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), commissioning has been scheduled for April 8 and 9, commencing at 9:00 AM at the DCs office. Longchar also confirmed the activation of a Control Room for supervising and managing the election proceedings effectively.

Longchar further announced that the third phase of training was set for April 15 focusing on Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima. As part of the preparations, Model Polling Stations and polling stations staffed by women polling officers will be established to promote inclusivity and efficiency. Additionally, a Voters Facilitation Centre will be set up to assist voters with any queries or concerns they may have, he informed.

In a move towards ensuring transparency and operational readiness, webcasting training has been scheduled for April 8. Moreover, a mock drill/dry run has been planned for April 9 to identify and address any potential issues before the official voting day.
All the Assistant Returning Officers from Dimapur-I, Dimapur-II, and Dimapur-III Assembly Constituencies and nodal officers of various activities were present during the briefing session.
