Perched at an altitude of 2,133 m above the sea level, Pfütsero, also known as the coldest and highest altitude town in Nagaland has been awarded the ‘Best City in Innovation & Practices' among the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) with less than 25,000 category under Swachh Survekshan 2020.

“Our efforts to keep our town clean over the last few years has reaped some fruit,” Mesulo Khalo, the Convenor of Ward Chairman Union Pfütsero shared. “We have given full cooperation to the district administration in this regard and we are all very happy that our town has been recognized,” he told The Morung Express.

Expressing that “we want to continue to strive towards this path even in the days to come”, he made particular mention of ‘waste segregation’ that the town has given special attention to. Colony wise, he said dustbins were made compulsory and the public have also given their full cooperation, he maintained, while they conducted mass social works and frequently cleaned their respective colonies.

“We are very honoured but it is also a very big lesson for us. We have to improve the look and cleanliness of the town considered worthy of the Award,” Kupelhi Losou, Director of Kalos Society, Pfütsero put across. He also maintained that citizens of Pfütsero have been trying their best to keep their town clean, but expressed concern that many things are not in place while asserting that “we have to press the authority to work more on basic infrastructure of the town.”

He went on to say that “we are very happy but we should be honest with ourselves,” while emphasizing the need to improve areas such as the drainage system. He further expressed the need for at least 2-3 dumper trucks to cover the 11 wards in Pfütsero town, which currently has only one. The Award, he stated is “a big lesson for us and we have a lot more to do.”
