Pfuchama, (MExN):Pfuchama village, located about 15 kilometers away from Kohima today witnessed great jubilations as a jubilee road was dedicated to the villagers this morning.

Dedicating this road, Minister for Urban Development Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu, hoped that the road would serve the people well in its purpose. Praying that the Platinum jubilee of Christianity in Pfuchama would bring about reconciliation, peace and prosperity in the village, he said that Jubilees were occasions for reconciliation, maintaining that all-round development would be attained only through peace and cooperation. Stressing the need to maintain economic sovereignty, the Minister regretted that many people try to become rich without effort. He asked the people, especially the youth to involve in self employment activities, saying that job opportunities have been saturated in the government sector. Also, regretting that commercial activities were dominated by non-locals, he urged the Naga youths to have greater zeal in business activities. He also cautioned that unemployment would continue if the youths do not come out with concrete plans and the will power to compete with the others.

The year 2005 marks the Platinum Jubilee, 75 years of Christianity for Pfuchama. Christianity heralded into this village in 1930. The first convert was Pfutso and his family. “During the initial years of the birthright of the Christian faith, we were looked after and nurtured by many including those from the Khedi Baptist Church of Kohima Village. We fondly recall the visit of early believers like Pastor Pehielie, Kumbho, Ruzhukhrie and Dr Sashiekuo, who came to us to lead us to what we are today,” said Daso Paphino.  “We are filled with joy and expectations. We have a year long celebration with many events every month. Some of the key events are reconciliation with some of our neighboring villagers, ringing of Jubilee bells, and prayer-chains started in the beginning of the year, construction of church building and construction of Jubilee road,” he said. About 28 families came forward to donate the land towards construction the road. “This road will always remind us that if we can dream big dreams, seek good and help others we will see those dreams become real in our life time” he said.

“Jubilee will come and go but this road will stand forever. Through this great endeavour we hope to pass on the legacy of visionary leadership to our future generation.” He also added that the road was a gift to the present generation, “to our children and their children and the generations to come” The 2 kilometers road was constructed with the help of a bulldozer provided through the help of the Minister.

Earlier, the function was chaired by Er. Vizotuo. Daso Paphino presented the Jubilee Road Project.  MLA, Medokhul Sophie, Development Commissioner Nagaland, Lalhuma, former Minister Dr. Kath and Ex-MLA Rüguozelhou Paphino as well as Government officers and public leaders attended the function.
