PGSU assures fight; demands VC’s head

Dimapur, March 26 (MExN): Belligerent postgraduate students of Nagaland University today assured the Nagaland University authorities that the students would fight for their rights. The students sneered at the claims of NU that “crores of rupees” worth of damage caused to the medical centre in Lumami campus.
‘There is not even a cough syrup in MI room and it cannot have property worth crores of rupees,’ the Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU) of Lumami stated in a fax today. The students have assured that they would leave no stone unturned in bringing “culprits” including Vice Chancellor Prof. K Kannan before the court of law. He should pay for the damages, the union stated in the hand-written note.
The PGSU summarily rejected the claims of the NU authorities stating that the allegations against the students are only an attempt to fool the public. The union wondered why the NU authorities would come up with allegations after decades of neglecting the university.
The union regretted the course of action they took but said that it was compelled. ‘This compelling situation can be seen from the vice chancellor’s attitude towards the signing of the charter of demands between the university’s authority and the PGSU (L) on the 6th of September which remains unfulfilled,” the union said.
The students held vice chancellor Prof. K Kannan accountable for the destruction of the MI room.
The students assured that they would give their best to see that the “culprits” are brought before the court of law. The PGSU (L) also issued a stern warning to the Public Relations Officer of the university. The union has asked him to withdraw the FIR lodged against the students. ‘The real culprit behind the destruction of the MI room is the authority headed by vice chancellor. If not the students community will be compelled to lodge FIR against vice chancellor…” the union stated.
“We the students ‘community demands that vice chancellor Prof. K Kannan should paid back the destruction caused by the students’ community…” the union stated in the fax.
