Phek and Niuland districts win U-14 Nagaland Sepaktakraw championship

Phek district defeated Wokha district  under boy’s category, while Niuland district defeated Chümoukedima district to lift the U-14 title of Sepaktakraw (Regu Event) for girls category of the 14 Inter-District Catch Them Young Tournament 2022 organised by Department of Youth Resources and Sports. 

The three-day event saw 16 districts participating in the championship at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima, which concluded today.

In the boy’s category final, Phek district despite losing the first set by 9-21 made a quick recovery in the second set winning by 21-12 and took charge in the third set by winning 21-17.

While Longleng district and Mokokchung were the semifinalists of the boy’s category.

In girl’s category, Niuland district dominated the final match defeating Chumoukedima district winning both the set by 21-19 and 21-15.Mokokchung and Dimapur were the losing semi finalists of the girl’s category.

Nagaland Youth Resources and Sports Advisor, Er Zale Neikha graced the closing ceremony and gave away the awards to the winners. 

Speaking on the occasion, Er Neikha maintained that in the state, Sepaktakraw discipline has been one of the most performing sports discipline; having represented India at different international events including Asian Games, namely - China 2010, Korea 2014, Indonesia 2018 and Thailand 2022 while he cited that in the recent 35th Edition of 2022 King’s Cup Sepaktakraw World Championship, Bangkok, Thailand, three prominent players namely: Viseyie Koso, Captain of Men’s Team India, (Gold), Akumtila and Vesevolii Dozo (Bronze), have brought laurels to our state and uplifted the Nation pride.

He exhorted the sportspersons of Nagaland that they have the capability to improve further and become successful sportspersons if they are willing to sacrifice and dedicate themselves and obey their coaches. Towards this end, he told the sportspersons to remain steadfast, work hard with dedication, determination and maintain discipline so as to achieve success.
