Phek DC visits “Vegetable Village Project”

DIMAPUR, MARCH 10 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Anoop Khinchi, along with the DHO, Phek visited the Horticulture Department project at Suhroba on March 7. A press note stated that the project (the Vegetable Village Programme) has been implemented since 2006 under the flagship programme of HMNEH. It is small village and 32 households are involved in the programme. The DC had an interface meeting with the Village Council Chairman and the Vegetable Village Committee members of the village. During formal discussions, the DC asked many questions especially on the problems/difficulties faced by the villagers (if any) while producing the vegetables and with regard to its marketing.    

The Council Chairman of Suhroba, Chinietso Hoshi welcomed the DC, Phek and said the villagers were honored by his visit. The Chairman reported that, there are 6 Executive Members to supervise the Vegetable Village Programme, there was an earning of Rs. 60,20,000.00 during 2009, 2010 and 2011 through the sales of different vegetables, and that the approximate earnings in a day ranges from Rs. 300-500/- per grower depending on the type of vegetables grown and sold. He also informed the DC that the main problem faced by the vegetable growers in the village is that of water supply. Chinietso Hoshi requested the DC to extend his help for the construction of a Marketing Shed in the village. 

The team went to the field, where the DC interacted with the workers in the vegetable field and told the villagers to work hard and to make the fullest use of the Horticulture Departments project. This was stated in a press note by Moa Walling, the District Horticulture Officer in Phek.
