Phek district reviews Adolescent Health programmes

Phek, December 17 (MExN): A district level review meeting on Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (National Adolescent Health Programme) and Adolescent Health was held on December 17 at CMO Office, Phek, during which the performance on Adolescent Friendly Health Clinics and Weekly Iron Folic Supplement was reviewed.

At present, Phek has four Adolescent Friendly Health Clinics (AFHC) located at District Hospital, Community Health Centre (CHC) Pfutsero, Chozuba and Meluri.

According to a press release from the District Media Officer, NHM Phek, Kutolu Nakro AFHC provides services such as treatment for common ailments in adolescent age groups, counseling and referral services. Under Weekly Iron Folic Supplement (WIFS) programme, iron tablets are provided to adolescent girls and boys enrolled in government schools and Anganwadi Centres.

The objective of the programme is to reduce the prevalence and severity of nutritional anaemia in adolescent population and in addition, deworming with Albendazole is been done bi- annually to control of worm infestation.

The release stated that under RBSK programme, a team of medical doctors and nurses visit schools and AWWs Centres for screening of anemia, early detection of congenital deformities and common diseases in adolescents.

The meeting was attended by doctors from AFHC, vocational trainer from Government Higher Secondary School Phek and Anganwadi Workers from Phek Sadar.
