Phek district XI today defeated Kohima district XI 2-1 in the final match to emerge the coveted champion title of the 20th Inter District Football Championship 2019 (Dr. T. Ao Trophy) here at Indira Gandhi Stadium.
Punuru Nienu opened the account for Phek in the 6th minute.
The equalizer goal for Kohima came through the boot of Kezhose Khizho in the 42nd minute.
Rhitsho Mero connected the winning goal for Phek in the 66th minute.
The champion Phek district XI received a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh along with the trophy while runner-up Kohima district XI pocketed Rs. 2 lakh.
Semi-finalists Mokokchung district XI and Peren district XI received Rs. 50,000 each.
N. Bongkhao Konyak, advisor, DUDA graced the valedictory function as the special guest.

He said that sports have the power to unite the people.
DUDA advisor urged the young players to follow the great legacy of the legendary footballer Dr. T. Ao and excel in the field of football.
Meanwhile, 50 players from 11 districts have been selected to go for trail for the upcoming Santosh Trophy and under-21 Dr. T. Ao Trophy.
Vote of thanks was proposed by NFA secretary K. Neibou Sekhose.
The tournament was jointly organized by Youth Resources & Sports department, Government of Nagaland and Nagaland Football Association (NFA) in commemoration with 100th birth anniversary of Dr. T. Ao.

Highest scorer: Kezhose Khizho (Kohima) and Suponglemba (Mokokchung) with five goals each.
