Dimapur, January 30 (MExN): Phek district observed Anti-Leprosy Day along with the rest of the world on January 30 at the CMO office under the theme ‘Let us Fight Leprosy & Make Leprosy a history.’
The main objective of the observation is to raise awareness about leprosy disease and teach people about the disease that is now easily curable, informed a press release from the Phek CMO office.
According to the release, Chief medical Officer Dr Khriezotuo Paphino, in his keynote address, encouraged the National Leprosy Eradication Program (NLEP) staff to continue its awareness activities and eliminate Leprosy completely.
The resource person Dr Shevo Hiese, DVBO Phek, highlighted the significance of the programme and also highlighted the causes, signs, and symptoms of Leprosy. The importance of awareness to do away the social stigma was also emphasized and he informed the participants that Leprosy treatment is free of cost, and that it is curable and not hereditary.
Anti-Leprosy Pledge was also read out by the NLEP staff and display of IEC materials were done.
The NLEP staff will also be carrying out Sparsh Leprosy awareness campaign till February 14 by conducting out various IEC activities across the district.
Earlier in the programme, the invocation prayer was pronounced by Wavitho Nyuwi, Pastor PBC while the vote of thanks was proposed by Kuveyi, PMW.
