Phek, September 24 (MExN): The Spices Board, Field Office, Kohima, conducted a Growers Training Programme on large cardamom at Thetsumi village under Chizami Block in Phek district on September 23.
The programme began with an opening prayer by Lhouvezulo Nuh, Associate Pastor, Thetsumi, followed by a welcome address and opening remarks by Senupelo K Lasuh, Village Council Chairman, Thetsumi village.

The technical sessions were conducted by David Ng, Officer-in-Charge, Spices Board, Kohima, and Kelhouzakie Chielie, District Horticulture Officer, Phek.

Various aspects of large cardamom cultivation were covered during the technical sessions, including nursery establishment, plantation management, post-harvest handling techniques and marketing. The resource persons also discussed the scope and challenges of large cardamom cultivation in the district.
Several queries raised by participants were addressed by the resource persons, including identification of viral diseases and their control measures, sourcing of quality seeds and planting materials, and guidelines for the formulation of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).

The training programme was attended by members of the Farmers Union, Nagaland, members of the village council, women and youth leaders, and progressive spice growers. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Israel, VDB Secretary, Thetsumi village.
