
Phek, October 25 (MExN): The Phek Wrestling Association (PWA) held a ceremony today at the Phek Village Panchayat Hall to honor its two remarkable wrestlers, Kuluvezo Soho and Nubasa Rhakho, who both clinched Gold medals at the recent All India Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Federation (AITWPF) 12 National Traditional Wrestling Championship 2024, held in Dehradun from October 3 to 6.
During the event, PWA President R. Bibi Soho announced that Kuluvezo Soho won Gold in the Senior category under 71 kg and has been selected to represent India at the upcoming Asian Alysh Belt Wrestling Championship, tentatively scheduled for either November 2024 or February 2025 in Kohima. Nubasa Rhakho secured Gold in the Cadet category under 73 kg.
In addition to honoring the wrestlers, the PWA acknowledged Surhoneyi Soho for obtaining an International Referee License in UWW Alysh Belt Wrestling and Kuzhovesa Soho for being appointed as the Joint Secretary of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) for the 2024-2028 term.
The ceremony featured speeches from several dignitaries, including Phek Village Council Chairperson Chivozo Soho, International Referee Surhoneyi Soho, and NWA Joint Secretary Kuzhovesa Soho.
The PWA expressed gratitude to MLA and Leader of the NPF Legislature Party Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu for his financial support of the event, as well as the Village Council, Phek, for their logistical assistance.
Pudusa Chizo, the first champion of CWA, delivered a blessing and facilitated the felicitation of the awardees. PWA President R. Bibi Soho concluded the ceremony with a congratulatory message.
The event was chaired by PWA General Secretary Surhovezo Venuh, with an opening prayer by Pastor Nuchicho Venuh and a welcome note delivered by PWA Joint Secretary Chivoyo Keyho. The closing prayer was pronounced by Pastor CRC, Phek Village Chiraneyi, followed by a celebratory feast.
