The Pochury Hoho Kohima (PHK) today held its 23rd general conference –cum- Pochury Day here at Ura Academy Hall with ex-MLA Khuosatho Nyusou as the speaker.
It is pertinent to mention that the people of Pochury had celebrated the first Pochury Day on 21st April, 1990 at Meluri Town which is the headquarters of Pochury, after the Government of Nagaland had formally announced the recognition of Pochury tribe as the 15th recognized tribe of Nagaland on April 19, 1990.
During the celebration of the Ist Pochury Day on April 21, 1990, the number of gazetted officers was only 5 with a few graduates in few villages. As per 2015 statistics, the strength of the gazetted officers of Pochury tribe rose to 108 with a good number of graduates and post-graduates in almost every village.
PHK general secretary S. Peter Trakha said to portray its unique identity to the other Naga tribes and to the world so as to preserve and to acknowledge its tradition, the PHK have observed red letter days during its tenure such as Pochury Commemoration Day, Black Day and Yemshe festival with utmost fervour and dedication.
He said that Pochury community though a young tribe in Nagaland, is making its existence felt in many aspects.
Trakha challenged the community to continue to move forward and give best effort in nation building focusing on its visions and goals by investing whatever gifts and resources “we have to the process of change to be progressive and for our better tomorrow.”
Earlier, the function was chaired by PHK president Tshela Thupitor while vote of thanks was proposed by Thorhosie Kajiri.
