Longleng, June 5 (MExN): The Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) in collaboration with World Vision, Longleng and District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Longleng under District administration observed PBCA-Green Mission cum World Environment Day at PBCA headquarters on June 5.
In a press release received here, it mentioned that taking the lead role by N Tialemba Phom, Executive Secretary, PBCA, Longleng, the Phom Peoples’ Council, Phomla Hoichem and Phom Students’ Conference adopted six resolutions with a commitment on environmental concerns. “We sincerely resolve to preserve ancient old trees, wildlife, and to promote wildlife sanctuary and Green flora and fauna to create an eco-friendly environment,” they resolved and also made a “sincere commitment to make Phom tribe-Longleng District as a GREEN DISTRICT -a model Green District to the rest of the districts of Nagaland as well.”
It was resolved that the different organisations will voluntarily work together to plant thousand trees every year as their joint commitment under the initiative of Green Mission by PBCA coinciding with World Environment Day.
As joint organisation, they committed to educate “our people not to practice the culture of spraying chemical pesticides, herbicides, insecticides in agriculture, farming, gardening etc.” It pointed out that the use of chemicals is poisonous to plant and species, because this will promptly result on the extinction of all living beings.
The organisations also resolved to create awareness on the use of any chemical substances and liquids which is harmful to marine animals and insects. “The rivers, canals and streams must be kept unpolluted,” it avowed.
Stating that ‘we have only “One Planet Earth”, (the mother-earth)’ they also committed to “continue working on protection of the planet earth for our future generation.”
Earlier, marking the day, YB Angam Phom, President, PPC as special guest of the programme, N Dape Phom, President, PSC, M Mano, President, Phomla Hoichem and Rev H Beaü, President, Phom Lempong (PBCA) planted one tree each inside the mission compound.
