PIL petitioners complain of threat

DIMAPUR, FEB 4 (MExN): In the continuing debate on whether the appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries can be seen as feasible, the petitioners who had earlier filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Guahati High Court have shed new light into the proceedings.

“We are being confronted by some groups of people from various quarters to withdraw the PIL, for reasons best known to them.”

Reiterating that they have no malintention, Neilo Khape and Mosonyi, the petitioners, have informed that a decision to this effect is under the examination of the Supreme Court whose decision will be final and binding.

“But we are pleased to learn that the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland has defended the appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in August, 2005 stating that the State of Nagaland has appropriate law to protect the Parliamentary Secretaries,” a release said.

Stating that they have nothing against any individual or party, the duo stated, “It is nothing but our inner conscience that has led us to seek the intervention of the Hon’ble High Court to clarify the legality of the office so that the popularly elected Hon’ble Members of both present and future will honourably hold a legally sanctioned public office and serve the people with full moral and legal authority as long as they enjoy the public mandate.”
