Kohima, October 26 (MExN): Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs) were trained to assist the common man on various welfare schemes during the second day of the three-day refresher training for Para-Legal Volunteers at the Directorate of State Institute of Rural Development Kohima on October 26.
Speaking on Poverty Alleviation schemes for village vis-à-vis Women Empowerment, Neibu Sekhose, Additional Director of Rural Department Blocks Nagaland pointed out that many people in the state do not have bank account. He therefore urged PLVs to find solution for financial inclusion so that people could avail welfare funds from the RD Department.
Neibu Sekhose also stressed on schemes such as MNREGA, SAGY, VDB welfare scheme, micro finance and income generation scheme.
Highlighting schemes under Postal Department, Imtikumzuk, Marketing Executive Nagaland Postal Division, explained the different types of account that could be opened in the Postal Department such as Basic Deposit Account, Monthly Deposit Account, Fixed Deposit Account, Postal Life Insurance and other account. He informed that the best scheme in Postal Department is the Postal Life Insurance Account as it has the lowest premium with highest bonus.
PP Bunagohain, Deputy Manager State Bank of India Kohima explained the types of bank account, how to open an account, legal procedure involved in opening and operating a bank account. He said that such knowledge would help in taking banking to the common man.
The resource persons T. Merang Aier, Director Social Welfare Department spoke on Welfare Scheme with Special Emphasis on PWDs, K. Ela. Director Prodigal’s Home Dimapur spoke on Victims of Human Trafficking and Child Abuse, Metevinuo Skahrie, Joint Director (IEC) Nagaland State AIDS Control Society spoke on basics o HIV and services available.
Khrolou Koza Lohe, State Training and Capacity Building Officer, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority spoke on various activities and schemes/programmes under NSDMA vis-à-vis the role of PLVs and Ketho Angami, Programme Officer (P.S) Kripa Foundation spoke Sensitization on Drug/substance abuse and its eradication.
This was followed by discussion on maintenance of reports/records on training/awareness programmes by Akumla Longchari, Coordinator NSLSA.
