Pochury students demand ‘relaxation policy’

Sütsü (Meluri) | January 8 : The Pochury students’ Union (PSU) has denounced the Education department for allegedly failing to implement the “relaxation policy” in the appointment of primary teachers. Affirming that the PSU will not remain silent till justice is served, the students are adamant that they will not accept or allow discrimination. The Education department is reminded that except for the Pochury, no one will be accepted to serve in their area on account of ‘linguistic difficulty’.
This was made known during the 53rd general conference of the PSU on January 6 at Sütsü village, under Meluri sub-division.
Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Yitachu was the chief guest of the occasion that was held under the theme “Heralding Change”. Speaking at the occasion, the chief guest expressed full support and cooperation and also assured that the Pochury student’ rights and interest will be upheld. However, he appealed to the PSU to be sensitive to any policy that is not proper or justified. Stating the chief minister of Nagaland as the ‘champion of the backward people, who understands the reality of the far-flung backward areas,’ Yitachu expressed confidence that Neiphiu Rio will understand the displeasure of the people, demanding for justice.
Yitachu challenged the students what their “vision” is. He lamented the attitude of the people seeking only white-collared jobs, knowing the fact that Nagaland’s government job sector is at 60% saturation and the government has to compromise with welfare funds. Yitachu strongly called upon the people to be sincere and dedicated in their work, reminding that if other states and countries can do it, why not the Nagas. He said the ‘scarcity of job’ should not be a hindrance; the need is effort, as it is a world of ‘survival of the fittest’. Only those who labour hard survive, he reminded. “Prayer alone will not help, let prayer and work goes hand in hand,” said Yitachu, adding that it is not the school or colleges to transform, “It is you yourself to transform, your commitments, and determination is enough to achieve your goal”. He also urged the students to grab whatever opportunities and facilities that the government endows on them.
More than 300 delegates from 30 villages are attending the 3-day conference.
