DIMAPUR: The Poilwa Development Board has expressed regrets that in spite of its preparedness to provide water source in view of the augmentation of water supply programme by the Government of Nagaland, the latter was ‘changing its stand of late’.

The Convener of PDB, Dirie Echao, in a release stated that in view of the augmentation of Kohima water supply, the Nagaland Government had proposed Teupuiki River as its source and identified its intake point.

Having honored the ownership of the Teupuiki River, the village elders and leaders of Khonoma Village had also approached the Poilwa Village on April 10 2005 in support of the Government’s requirements and requested the village to extend its cooperation for the successful implementation of the proposed scheme.

It further recalled that Minister Shurhozelie, Minister Longon and their entourage comprising of ex-MLA Aza, KMC Chairman and members, Dr. Nikki Kire Joint Director as well as the Kohima Village council Chairman and others met the village authorities and requested them to part with Teupuiki River for the aforementioned scheme on February 22, 2005.

“However, in spite of our preparedness to give water, we regret to learn that the government of Nagaland is changing its stand of late” it stated while noting that the authority was trying to tap water from various rivulets running in the disputed areas. It also added that the matter was still in court so neither of the parties could give individual consent for the implementation of the project at the present site.
