Polio Sunday on Feb 27

Dimapur, February 23 (MExN): The Department of Health & Family Welfare has scheduled second round of IPPI (polio) Sunday 2011 on February 27 in all the districts.
Principal Director, Department Of Health & Family Welfare Dr TL Nakhro in a press statement said that the department is all geared up to administer polio drops to over 2.6 lakh children (0-5 years) in the State in 2,604 polio booths to be manned By 10, 416 vaccinators and 512 supervisors along with vaccines and other logistics.
“This programme is our nation's contribution to the global efforts of eradicating polio disease form the world. Due to active participation of all concerned, the state has had no case of polio since 1997, which is indeed an achievement to be proud of. However, we cannot afford to remain complacent till every corner of the country in the world is declared free polio,” he said in the note.

He also added that while thanking everyone for their past cooperation all sections of the people, agencies(Govt. and Non-Govt, including the security force), organisations and especially community leaders and parents of children below five years are requested to come forward and ensure that eligible children receive the "two drops of life" (polio drops) on February 27.

In a separate note, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dimapur has informed parents, guardians to bring their children 0-5 years to the nearest polio booth for immunization from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
The CMO also stated that the first round of IPPI (polio) in Dimapur district covered 56194 children. The department would also appeal to cooperate in the forth-coming IPPI round to make it a success.
