‘Political gimmick’: NPP on proposal for opposition-less government

•    Demands upgradation of Niuland, Bhandari and Tzürangkong to districts
•    Demands completion of Foothill road at the earliest

Dimapur, July 25 (MExN): The National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland on Sunday said that it is awe struck by the sudden decision of the Naga People’s Front (NPF)   to support the ruling coalition in the State.

The NPP termed NPF general secretary Achumbemo Kikon’s statement as a ‘political gimmick’ and questioned the NPF as to why there was no political outcome and will, when the party was ruling the State with opposition-less government.

“It is of the opinion that if at all any solution has to take place then the entire MLAs should resign to pave ways for the smooth transition of power and not grouping as one political entity and claim to be unifying for the Naga cause which in itself is a mockery to Naga Nationalism,” the NPP maintained.

The party also reminded the NPF that Naga national issues is a core issue where every rightful Naga has a say and has to be consulted before coming to any conclusion and not just the 60 elected members. “Nagas have never authorized 60 MLAs to take Naga political decisions on our behalf,” it added.

The NPP further cautioned the Nagas that having an opposition-less government shows the frustration of the NPF and its willingness to share political spoils and urged them shun the NPF’s ‘selfish ideology’.

Accusing the NPF of never having played an active opposition role, it questioned whether it was because they were in nexus indirectly from before and waiting for such opportunity, or because they were ‘hand in glove’ with the government.

The NPP expressed amusement at the NPF taking a sudden u-turn and deciding to join the coalition not long after its recent attacks on the State government regarding misappropriation of funds and lack of infrastructure in the State.

It further reminded the NPF that the opposition’s main role is to question the government and hold them accountable and posed why Nagas should not question the NPF for failing the citizens ‘miserably’.

Meanwhile, the NPP also demanded immediate upgradation of Niuland in Dimapur, Bhandari in Wokha and Tzürangkong in Mokokchung to districts for proper administration in border areas and to immediately sanction Village guards in all border areas.

It questioned the State government on why the Foothill road is not yet commutable despite many representations and requests by the Nagas and commitments given to them.

The NPP cautioned of carrying our sit-in protests across Nagaland if the Foothill is not completed at the earliest.
