Kohima, January 23 (DIPR): CEO Nagaland Abhijit Sinha held a meeting with all the political parties on January 23 at DC Conference Hall, Kohima.
CEO in the meeting informed all the party representatives that the Model Code of Conduct comes into conduct with immediate effect after the declaration of the election. The meeting is being held in order to bring about the rules and direction of the Election Commission of India, he maintained. He apprised of the ECI’s norm which restricts the total expenditure of a candidate to Rs. 20 Lakhs per candidate. There will be 22 Election Observer including an Observer along with video team for each A/C, he further informed. He also informed of the setting of monitoring CCTV cameras at various check post.
Sinha further informed that there is no bar for a party expenditure but the same has to be reported to the Election Commission.
Intending candidates were also impressed upon that nominations have to be done in their respective Administrative HQ from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. He further requested the representatives of all the party to check out the ECI’s website to obtain all necessary documents.
Additional CEO, Moa Aier, in his address informed that 3 (three) flying squad for every A/C will be deployed. Meanwhile, in view of the General Election to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, and in pursuance of the instructions of the Election Commission of India, particularly to the political parties, candidates and party workers the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, has in a press release informed all concerned that cash exceeding Rs.50,000/- found in a vehicle carrying a candidate, his agent or party workers or carrying posters or election materials or any drugs, liquor, arms or gift items which are valued at more than Rs. 10,000/-, likely to be used for inducement of electors will be subject to seizure. The press release also added that members of the public carrying any amount in cash exceeding Rs. 50,000/- to always keep some relevant documents with them which substantiates the source and purpose of the money.
