Kohima, May 14 (DIPR): The first round of training for polling personnel of Kohima for upcoming Lok Sabha bye-election in Nagaland was held at Kohima College auditorium here on May 14. It was attended by presiding officers, 1st polling officers, 2nd polling officers, 3rd polling officers, additional polling officers for Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT), and IV Grade staff.
SDO (C) Jakhama, Alemyabang spoke on Election Duty Certificate (EDC) for the service voters. EDC, he said, will be available to those service voters who are enrolled in Kohima district electoral roll only. The documents required for EDC are duty detailment slip, service ID card along with one photo copy and EPIC card issued by the concerned department, he informed. The SDO also mentioned that in order to avail the EDC one has to fill up the form No 12 A. The last date for submission of the form is May 18.
Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Rajesh Soundararajan (IAS) directed all the polling personnel detailed for election duty to attend the trainings, while cautioning that necessary action will be taken against the absentees. He also told all the officials who had applied for exemption from election duty on medical ground to appear before the medical board at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima on May 16 at 10:00 am. No further application will be accepted after the due date, he added. Project Officer of Labour department and Master Trainer, Chubayanger briefed about the roles and functions of each officer entrusted for election duty. He informed that EDC are used for casting votes of those officials who are engaged in election duties.
The 1st round of training for the 2nd and 3rd polling officers will be held on May 15 and the 2nd round training for the presiding officers, 1st, 2nd, 3rd polling officers, additional polling officers for VVPAT will be held on May 19, followed by 3rd round on May 22 for presiding officers, 1st polling officers, additional polling officers for VVPAT and 2nd polling and 3rd polling officers on May 23 at the same venue respectively.
