Poor family budget, root of corruption, opines Khekiho

Dimapur, Jan 13 (MExN): Nagaland Minister for Industries and Commerce, H Khekiho Zhimomi,  believes that corruption is a reflection of failure of families to maintain a proper ‘family budget’. “Greediness”, however, according to the staunch regionalist, is the root of all corruption.

Pondering seriously on the issue of corruption at the 30th general conference of Aqahuto Area Students’ Union at Shoxuvi village today (January 13) as the chief guest, Zhimomi said each family needs to set aside a proper family budget according to the family’s income. However, wanting to spend more than the income generated by the family concerned would obviously compel one to become corrupt. “Greediness” is the root cause of all corruption of the world, the NPF stalwart reminded and challenged the gathering to set up a proper family budget.

The staunch advocate of regionalism also reiterated that regionalism is the only answer to the Naga problem. He said Congress was not able to do in 20 years what the NPF-led DAN government has done in less than four-years rule in Nagaland. This, Minister Zhimomi said, itself is a testimony of good governance to the Naga people.

The leaders also had a piece of advice for the youths of Aqahuto area – choose “the right path”. He challenged the youths to choose ‘the right path towards successes’ for betterment of the society at this juncture when the Naga people are at the crossroads of their lives. He remarked that choosing a wrong path would mean a negative lifelong effect.

Further, pointing out the need to maintain one’s unique identity, Zhimomi reminded that “as Nagas we must know who we are and maintain our own identity”. Observing that Aqahuto area, which comprises of 22 villages, is one of the oldest Sumi villages, Zhimomi challenged the youth of the area to set an example not only for Sumis but for other communities as well. A parade from participating villages impressed the chief guest. He donated Rs. 50,000 to the union and Rs. 10,000 to Shoxuvi mothers’ group who performed a cultural song. Later in the day, Minister Khekiho held informal interactions with leaders and elders of Aqahuto. Members representing various villages put forward to the leader, problems faced by the area. The public urged that these problems be dealt with a positive approach and placing confidence and support on the minister, assured their co-operation to work towards progress of Aqahuto.
