Football enthusiasts and supporters of the Portugal national football team gathered in large numbers at Ti-thsa Restaurant in Zunheboto on Wednesday for the "Portugal Fans Assemble" programme, celebrating their shared passion for Portuguese football while promoting unity and community spirit.

Supporters from across the town attended the event dressed in Portugal's iconic red and green jerseys and waving the national flag, creating a vibrant festive atmosphere.

The programme was hosted by Gloria Phuleshe, founder of Müsa Mix, who said the gathering also served as a moment of silent prayer and solidarity for the team. She noted that while supporters may not directly influence Portugal's journey on the field, they remain emotionally connected through their shared love for the sport.

Delivering the welcome address, Zunheboto Town Council Councillor and Co-Leader Hutoka Zhimo described sports as an emotion that connects people beyond boundaries. Encouraging fans to continue coming together, he expressed hope for an even bigger celebration if Portugal wins a major international trophy in the future.

"Sports is an emotion that connects people. Let us continue to come together and celebrate our shared passion for football," Zhimo said.

The programme also featured a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion.

Adding to the festivities, local musicians Naga Kheks and Toki entertained the gathering with live performances.

A message on unity titled "We Are One" was delivered by Photography Club Zunheboto president and leader Hokato Yeptho, who stressed that the gathering was about more than football. He said such events help build friendships, strengthen community bonds and promote love and togetherness.

"Through this gathering, we are building friendship. Let us foster love and togetherness from today onwards," Yeptho said.

Following the formal programme, participants assembled with their vehicles at Zungti Village Gate junction for a grand convoy through Zunheboto town. Decorated in Portugal's national colours, the convoy drew the attention of residents as supporters displayed their enthusiasm and solidarity.
