DIMAPUR (MExN): The Kohima Education Fair which was held for two successive days, Wednesday and Thursday, received a positive response. The fair was organized by Premier Enterprises and was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Minister of Higher & Technical Education, Dr. Shurhozelie. In his inaugural speech, he congratulated Premier Enterprises for initiating and organizing the first ever education fair held in Nagaland. He further said that this fair would enable many of the Naga students to choose the right careers for themselves. There were 13 stalls which were manned by the representatives of institutes and colleges from outside Nagaland.

The first day of the fair saw people from different communities and walks of life making their way to the fair. A few colleges such as Oriental College took the trouble of bringing their students to the fair, where they were counselled on the different courses and institutes that are available, as options for their future studies. All this happened inspite of the weather which became incessantly unpleasant and cold due to the heavy wind and rain. The second day however got better response with the weather clearing up and the sun shining bright. A large  number of students and parents came and visited the various stalls which catered to various professional courses such as aeronautical engineering, hotel management, medical sciences, social science, theology, etc. A number of colleges including Modern College and Don Bosco School students also made their way to the fair. Apart from this, a host of government officials visited the fair which included the Governor of Nagaland, Shyamal Datta, Chief Minister  Neiphiu Rio and the Chief Secretary, Lalhuma. The Governor in his interaction with the participants expressed his pleasure and appreciation regarding the fair and encouraged Patricia Kire (Premier Enterprises) to hold more of these in the near future. CM Neiphiu Rio also held the view that fairs such as these will help the Naga students and expose them to the various career prospects available before them.

An interesting observation made is the fact that the fair was attended in greater number by the students who had appeared for their Class 12 board exams rather than the students who are doing their graduate studies, be it the science, commerce or the arts stream. Premier Enterprises will be now holding the Education Fair in Dimapur for the next two days, Friday and Saturday. It is expected that the response in Dimapur will also be as good if not, better than it was in Kohima. The Education Fair is being sponsored by The Morung Express and the State Bank of India which has also opened a stall to provide information on the procurement of education loans.
