Post poll violence in Western Angami Assembly Constituency condemned

DIMAPUR, MARCH 6 (MExN): Several organizations today condemned the post poll violence which occurred in the Western Angami Assembly Constituency on March 4.

The Western Angami Public Organisation (WAPO) cautioned that such acts of violence will not be tolerated, and said that such incidents “smears and tarnishes the good image of the entire area." It demanded that the concerned authority book and punish the perpetrators as per the law.

The Jotsoma Village Council (JVC) meanwhile said that it “does not endorse such incidents and hereby strongly condemn the same.”

Meanwhile, the NDPP Kohima Region alleged that “the primary reason of the rampage, being not able to swallow the rejection of their candidate by the people in a democratic set-up.” “Such act goes against our very own culture and against any established rule of law. Regrettably, the senseless act which could be the first recorded post-poll violence in the entire district since statehood, has brought shame and tarnished the image of the peace loving citizens of the district,” it added. The NDPP asked the law enforcing agency to immediately act upon the FIRs lodged and arrest and book the culprits.

Another press release from the NDPP’s 8th Western Angami AC unit said that FIR has been filed for violent incidents that occurred on February 27 and March 4. While condemning the acts, the NDPP unit asked the authorities to arrest the culprit at the earliest and initiate necessary action so that no such undemocratic incidents occur in the future.
