Kohima, November 27 (MExN): A day after 13 villages/colonies in Dimapur demanded restoration of power before the festive season, Commissioner & Secretary (Power) KD Vizo today informed the general public that the Department of Power, Government of Nagaland is “trying very hard” to restore stable electricity supply in Dimapur out of “very limited resources” available with the department.
Installation of 10 MVA transformer at Nagarjan is in full swing and is likely to be completed in 2 to 3 days time, Vizo stated in a press release, while requesting the citizens of Dimapur to bear with the department till such time the power supply system is normalized.
It was informed that the department has already transferred the load of Peren district to Kohima and efforts are underway for transferring some load of Nagarjan sub-station to 20 MVA at Sovima sub-station. The installation of new 20 MVA transformer which the department had arranged on loan basis has also started at Nagarjan and will be ready in about 15 days if all goes well, the release added.
Acknowledging the tremendous hardship being faced by the citizens of Dimapur and also appreciating them for raising their concerns, the Department of Power informed that till such time sufficient maintenance fund is released, it will not be in a position to give quality power supply as desired by the citizens.
The release meanwhile noted that senior officers at the level of Engineer-in-Chief and Chief Engineer (T&G) are constantly monitoring the technical activities at Nagarjan sub-station.
Further, the department appealed to the Dimapur citizens to assist by saving power through using ceiling fan or table fan instead of Air Conditioner; assist in checking power theft, especially in stopping those cases where there is by passing of power meters and tampering of power meters.
