KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 16 (DIPR): The Department of Power has launched the Point of Sale (POS) for electricity bill payment which is the first in the North East region. Chief Secretary, Nagaland, Pankaj Kumar in the presence of a host of dignitaries from different departments launched the POS at Kohima Electrical Sub-Division-I on November 16.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary stated that during the last few years, the Power department has been taking serious efforts to modernize the functioning of electricity in providing latest technology to the consumers and also with the introduction of online payment facility to save time and energy.
He added that the initiative in providing of POS has brought the benefits for both the department and consumers as consumers need not have to worry about cash payment and make cashless and online payment from home with internet connection. At the same time, the department also will not need to handle the cash payment which would be electronically manage and easy to monitor.
Pankaj Kumar also expressed his happiness that it was a satisfying moment to see the POS facility functioning and lauded the department for taking up such initiative for the benefit of the consumers. He said that such initiative would bring positive results for both the department and the consumers and appreciated the Commissioner and Secretary, Power, K.D Vizo and his departmental officials for making it possible.
He also appealed the power department to improve the billing and collection efficiency where the biggest problem is the distributing system. He further requested the department to prepare a project for external funding to maintain the system in a healthy manner and called upon the consumers to pay their bills timely.
