Power Dept to launch disconnection drive and raids against defaulting consumers, theft

Dimapur, March 7 (MExN): The Electrical Division, Dimapur, has announced that it will be launching an intensive disconnection drive targeting defaulting consumers with pending electricity bills for more than two months.

Besides, raids will be conducted intensively to curb power theft through hooking, tampering of energy meters, and pilferage of energy meters, it added.

A notice issued by the Division informed that the drive will cover all categories of consumers — including government, bulk, industrial, commercial, domestic, Village Electricity Management Board (VEMB), and Urban Electricity Management Board (UEMB) consumers.

The operation will be conducted across various locations under the Electrical Division, Dimapur, with immediate effect and without further notice, it stated.

Accordingly, consumers have been urged to clear their outstanding bills and refrain from any illegal activities to avoid disconnection and inconvenience.

The notice also reminded the public that under the Indian Electricity Act, 2003 (Part XIV, Section 135), any person found using electricity illegally is liable for imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both.

The Electrical Division called for cooperation from all consumers to ensure the smooth functioning of the power supply system.
