Pranabananda Women’s College organises national webinar

Dimapur, September 17 (MExN): The Department of English, Pranabananda Women’s College, Dimapur conducted a national webinar on ‘Translation: Authentic Representation in Dialectical Originality’ on September 16, a press release informed on Friday.

Resource person Dr H Salome Kinny, Assistant Professor at Northeast Christian University (NECU), Dimapur spoke on ‘Language and Translation: Naga Context,’ with a detailed information on dynamics of language and its usages. She emphasized on loyalty towards source text in the act of translation and also stressed on the notion that one language should not be compared to the other as all languages are beautiful, the release stated.

The second resource person Dr Sudeesh K enlightened participants with a talk on ‘Decoding Abhignanasakuntalam in English: Questions of Translation, History and Culture,’ and accented on the notion that one should clearly distinguish between the source language and the target language while translating. He stated that a translator is both a creator and an artist.

The programme was chaired by Asst Prof, Dept of English Rupa Dutta and welcome address was delivered by Krishna Bhattacharjee, HoD, Dept of English, with a note on the place of translation in higher studies. It was concluded with vote of thanks by Sanjukta Bhattacharjee, Asst Prof, Dept of English, Pranabananda Women’s College, the release stated.
