Satakha, November 12 (MExN): The 15-U Satakha Area Sports and Cultural Association observed Pre-Ahuna cum cultural competition on November 12 at the public ground in Satakha town. Minister of Roads and Bridges, Government of Nagaland, G Kaito Aye, was the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, G Kaito Aye emphasised that sports and athletes represent different aspects, but culture is an image and identity of our community. Therefore, he urged the continuation of promoting the rich culture and identity. He stated that the Satakha Area Sports Cultural Association is a common platform for Satakha people, making every village’s participation essential, as this event reflects Satakha unity and identity in promoting cultural identity.
Aye highlighted that Satakha is also known for its rich history in contributing to the Naga national movement, social and political leadership, which are part of today’s leadership in Naga society. He emphasised that the Satakha constituency, comprising 36 villages and 41 polling stations, should come together, with people participating in social and economic development upliftment.
He questioned whether the constituency people should prioritise helping the village community or individuals and stressed focusing on community development over personal interests. In a democratic setup, he noted that whoever is elected is responsible for the people and should take opportunities for community development through collective participation for the welfare of Satakha people.
Aye also emphasised the importance of indigenous games and larger prospects of sports, including indoor games, to encourage youths and compete at higher levels. He urged GBs, as custodians of the village, to take responsibility in good and bad times for the contribution of society.
He concluded by urging GBs to observe Ahuna with thanksgiving prayers and receive blessings. He appealed to the people to avail themselves of government schemes and assured his cooperation in helping unemployed youths. He also further urged the Sumi community to unite for progress, humility before God, and societal transformation.
The significance of Ahuna was delivered by Akukau Mughato Zhimo of Nunumi village, and a war dance was performed by Shoipu village. The inaugural programme began with an invocation by Vinotoli Achumi, APW-UBC Satakha. Various Sumi cultural and indigenous games competitions were also held, stated a press release issued by Media Cell, 15-U Satakha Area Sports and Cultural Association.
