Massive preparation is on for the forthcoming 22nd edition of the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland, starting from December 1-10 at the picturesque Naga Heritage village, Kisama, about 10 km from the state’s capital Kohima.

Preparations are in full swing at the main venue, officials from the State Tourism Department informed.

Apart from the normal activities for ten-day long festivity, this year’s Hornbill festival will also feature Phezou tourism activity Tuophema, Futsal- Kakit turf, Sovima Turf, traditional stone pulling, cross country Hornbill among others. Guests/dignitaries for the festival are however, yet to be finalized.

The Government of Nagaland organizes the Hornbill Festival every year in the first week of December to encourage inter-tribal interaction and to promote cultural heritage of Nagaland. The festival showcases a mélange of cultural displays under one roof.

The aim of the festival is to revive and protect the rich culture of Nagaland and display its extravaganza and traditions.

For visitors, it means a closer understanding of the people and culture of Nagaland, and an opportunity to experience the food, songs, dances and customs of Nagaland.

The week-long festival unites one and all in Nagaland and people enjoy the colourful performances, crafts, sports, food fairs, games and ceremonies, traditional arts and sculptures on display, flower shows, , cultural medley - songs and dances, fashion shows, Naga wrestling, indigenous games and musical extravaganza, among others.
