Preserving the wildlife for posterity to come

Longsa, April 14 (MExN): Tzüla (Dikhu) Green Zone Project Management Committee (TGZPMC) organized a one day environmental awareness campaign at Longsa and Ungma villages on Saturday, April 13 and also distributed five gas stoves and cylinders each to five families in the two villages. 

The Tzüla (Dikhu) Green Zone Project which was started in the year 2010 has been initiated by Longsa and Ungma villagers and it is being managed by the TGZP Management Committee. This project protects the flora and fauna in and around the Dikhu River area and defaulters of the project are fined Rs 50,000 for violating the rules and regulations of the project.  

The TGZPMC Chairman, Tia Longkumer while delivering the keynote address enlightened the audience on the need to preserve the wildlife in the society. Terming global warming and climate change as a global war and as a big challenge, Tia Longkumer said that different plant and animal species are getting extinct on an alarming scale and therefore it should be the effort of every individual to conserve the wildlife in the society. In this regard, he said that the Tzüla (Dikhu) Green Zone Project initiated by the Longsa and Ungma villagers is a small contribution to the world in preserving the wildlife which will go a long way and be appreciated by posterity to come. 

Meanwhile, the Mokokchung District Forest Officer and District Fishery Officer also spoke on the occasion. Both the officials lauded Longsa and Ungma villagers for initiating the Tzüla (Dikhu) Green Zone Project and said that through this project the wildlife would be preserved.
