President of India Ram Nath Kovind during his maiden visit to Nagaland on December 1 expressed admiration of Naga shawls.
Gracing the inaugural function of Hornbill Festival as chief guest, President Kovind urged tourists to purchase and take back with them some of the beautiful shawls of the state.
“Nagaland is truly enchanting. Anybody who comes here would not want to leave in a hurry. And I would urge tourists coming to this Festival to purchase and take back with them some of the beautiful shawls of the state,” said Kovind in his address at the inaugural function of Hornbill Festival at Kisama on December 1.
Stating that every tribe and community has skilled weavers who specialise in different styles of shawls, President said “Each is a marvel.”
“In a time of machine-made products, Nagaland should justifiably be proud of such traditional, hand-woven shawls. They must reach a much wider market,” Kovind added.
