Promote 6th semester students as well: ANCSU

DIMAPUR, JUNE 10 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU) has written to the Nagaland University with regard to the university undergraduate (backlog) exams 2020.

Referring to the NU’s notice on June 9 on promotion of 2nd and 4th semester students without exams, the ANCSU sought that 6th semester students should also be promoted without conducting exams in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It further urged that those having backlog papers should also be considered.

In a letter to the NU Vice Chancellor, the ANCSU reminded that it had written to the former appealing for promotion of both intermediate and terminal semester students for the backlog semester exam of academic session 2019-2020.

“As per the guideline of the UGC, the ANCSU also echoes the same proposal that, if the student wishes to improve the grades, he/she should be given a chance to appear in special exams for such subjects during next semester,” it stated.

Seeks waiver of college fees

The ANCSU meanwhile also wrote to the Director, Higher Education Department seeking waiver of college fees for students considering the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to the economic crisis in the state as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many students, parents and guardians are facing financial constraints for reasons best known to us, the union pointed out. It therefore asked the department to waive possible fees in all the government colleges.

“Many private colleges have come forward by waiving complete admission fees, partial fees and allowing students to pay admission fees on installment basis. As such, the ANCSU once again request your kind authority to take serious note of the underlying grievances and waive possible fees in all the government colleges,” the ANCSU appealed.
