Proposed fund for agri & allied sectors, others

Kohima, July 22 (DIPR): On the Agri & Allied sectors, the Chief Minister proposed to provide Rs. 70.65 crore in the Agri sector to focus on improved connectivity through agri link roads, provide storage facilities and increase in food productivity to achieve the goal of ‘food for all’ as committed in Vision 2020. 

In the Horti sector, an amount of Rs. 11.46 crore is proposed towards activities such as setting up of two Primary Processing Centres to improve the post-harvest management sector in the state for horticultural produce by providing packaging and marketing facilities to help improve the marketability of horticulture produce, and for developing infrastructure, the Chief Minister said in his Budget speech. He also added that the Department of Horti is taking up a pilot project to create sustainable livelihood in identified villages. 

In Vety sector, the Chief Minister proposed to provide Rs. 29.36 crore to focus on enhancing meat production by taking up piggery projects in the Public Private Partnership mode in collaboration with capable entrepreneurs, churches, NGOs and self help groups. He also informed that a Milk Products Manufacturing Unit is being set up at Kigwema to create marketing avenues for milk producers and added that’s Mini Dairy Plants at Kohima and Mokokchung will also be strengthened. 

In Fisheries sector, an amount of Rs. 6.90 crore is proposed to focus on increasing fish production through development of paddy-cum-fish culture, he said. 

The forest sector will focus on community bio-diversity conservation, preservations of reserve forest and conservation of plantation, said that Chief Minister in his budget speech for which an amount of Rs. 27.86 crore has been proposed. He also informed the house that the Department has set up Joint Forest Management Committee in 573 villages covering 31,878 hectares in all the districts. During the current year, an additional area of 1000 hectares is being taken up for bamboo plantation to ensure sustained supply of raw materials to Tuli Paper Mill, the chief Minister added. 

In cooperation sector, the Chief Minister said that the existing Cooperative Training Centre at Medziphema will be upgraded to a Regional Level Institute. The Chief Minister also informed that the Nagaland State Cooperative Marketing and Consumers Federation is opening new LPG outlets in Mon and Zunheboto and informed that an amount of Rs. 4.73 crore has been proposed in the sector. 

The Chief Minister in his budget speech proposed to provide Rs. 53.57 crore in the Education sector towards completion of projects like infrastructure development of the directorate building and ongoing works, communitisation, and for distribution of free text books. He also informed that the Government of India has launched two new programme – Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan and Saakshar Bharat to achieve the goal of ‘education for all’. These will provide infrastructure for ‘girls hostels’ and ‘Model School’ as well as improve the quality of education in the state. 

The Chief Minister also informed that Rs. 17.37 crore has been earmarked as ‘State Share’ for the Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
