Proposed office bearers of Maram Union ‘null and void,’ declare 21 village authorities

With regard to the election issue of Maram Union, 21 Maram village authorities have asserted today that the “illegitimate office bearers of Maram Union for the tenure 2021-24” cannot represent Maram community (Maram Union) in any of the affiliated organisations (government and non-governmental) until it is settled as per the "rule of law" (of the Maram Union constitution).

In an “open letter” to the interim speaker of Maram Union, the 21 village authorities said that they will not accept the “unconstitutional and manipulated office bearers of Maram Union for the tenure 2021-24 under any circumstance and re-affirmed as null and void since it is not the people’s mandate”.   

The further declared that the “proposed office bearers of Maram Union for tenure 2021- 24 as null and void.”

The letter said, "In pursuance to the letter to the chief election commissioner of Maram Union dated October 4, 2021, by 20 villages authority, please note that objection was raised in the floor of the house for unconstitutional selection of office bearers during Maram Union general body Assembly held on September 30, 2021". 

According to the letter, as the election commission had not issued nomination papers, no filing of nominations, no scrutiny, no withdrawal and no election were held against the notification of the election commission, dated September 3, 2021”.

Meanwhile, a copy each of this letter has been sent (read copy to) to the president of the United Naga Council (UNC) and the president of the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), according to the 21 village authorities.

The “open letter” was issued by the Chairmen of Katomei Village Authority, Willong Khullen Village Authority, Maram Khullen Mathak Sagai Village Authority, Kamalong  Village Authority, Kagongmei Village Authority, Maram Ramlung  Village Authority, New Maram Village Authority, Taklung Village Authority,  New Magaimai Village Authority, Maram Makha Sagai Village Authority, Maram Centre Village Authority, Maram Khullen Khullakpa Sagai Village Authority, Khaba Duikhung Village Authority, Kongnem Village Authority, Malingli Village Authority; Headmen of Taphou Naga Village Authority, Ngatan Village Authority, and Sangongbam Village Authority; Secretaries of Sangkunglung Village Authority, Willong Khonou Village Authority; and “MU representative” of Pumdumlong  Village Authority.
