Balijan, July 25 (MExN): A newly formed women organisation named Border Area Women Action Forum (BAWAF) and its allied organisations - Karbi Students Association, Central Committee; KNCA, Central Committee; SYC, Central Council; KANSU Bokajan regional Committee, and Balijan Youth Club, Balijan (A), Karbi Anglong today took out a mass protest rally from Balijan (A) to Bokajan SDO (Civil), Bokajan against opening of wine shops and bars in villages in the border belt areas of Karbi Anglong. Women volunteers and youths carried out the protest shouting/carrying slogans. Some of the slogans read "Save Children, Save Women, Stop Alcohol,” “We want peace not Alcohol,” “We condemn Authority granting Alcohol permission,” “Alcohol spoils family and society.” Later, the women Forum submitted a copy of memorandum to Sub- Divisional Officer (C), Bokajan, which explicitly endorsed the authority to stop giving licence/permission to any person who seek permission of opening wine shops and bars in the border belt areas, stated a press statement. It also asked the authority to cancel the permits which were earlier allotted in the border belt areas of Karbi Anglong.
