Dimapur, April 20 (MExN): The Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) as per the federal assembly’s resolution adopted on illegal immigrants had undertaken a surprise checking at various construction sites (government and private) from April 8.
A press release issued by PSC, Vice-President, Matong Angh and NLI Committee PSC, Convenor, Yongkai Keikung stated that during the course of checking, many of the labourers were non-locals and without valid documents or expired documents. Those who had documents had also not reported to the nearest police station as mandated in the ILP laws. The ever-increasing influx of illegal immigrants in the district is affecting the socio-economic development of the people. The PSC expressed “shock and surprise as to how the illegal immigrants are able to by-pass numerous police check-posts.”
The student body has requested all concerned contractors or private individuals to verify the documents and credentials of their non-local labourers from the District Administration, Police and intimate the same to the PSC Office Longleng before May 1, 2013.
