PSU asks NHIDCL to revoke tender suspension

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 13 (MExN): The Pochury Students’ Union (PSU) has asked the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to revoke the suspension of tender for activities at the proposed two-lane project between Akhegwo to Akashbridge (Jessami) of NH 202 under Phek district.

A press release from the PSU acknowledged that “the community as a whole has come to the realisation of the misdeeds of some individuals, and has initiated necessary corrective measures.” The NHIDCL had issued the suspension order in view of structures being built along the road with the sole intention to receive compensation.

“The decision of the NHIDCL to suspend the tender indefinitely has come too early without giving the community sufficient time. Whereas, civil societies and students union has lent all out support to the district administration in the multi-pronged approach of dealing with the serious case of rampant structures along the proposed ROW,” the PSU stated. It further stated that the union will continue to stand uncompromised on removing any obstacles that will jeopardise this project.

The PSU directed all individuals/land owners whose land falls under the ROW to come forward and voluntarily remove the structures “constructed with malafide intention of claiming damage compensation.”

It further cautioned “vested interests” that any act that jeopardises the project shall not be allowed at any cost. It directed all individuals who had put up structures “to obstruct the development in our area and malign the image of the Pochury people” to immediately dismantle all temporary structures that they had constructed along the whole stretch (Akash bridge to Akhegwo) on or before September 30, as per the direction of the Government.

The PSU meanwhile assured that it would see to it that all genuine properties, farmsteads (jhum& terrace fields), forest is compensated appropriately.
