Peren, September 12 (MExN): The Peren Town Ward Chairman Union (PTWCU) and the Gaonbura Union Peren Town held an emergency joint meeting on September 9 at GB Hall Peren Town, during which they resolved to impeach the PTWCU president and Head GB.
The meeting deliberated on the issue of their President and Head GB appending their signatures on documents, related to the release of structure compensation for NH 129A in the build-up areas, which, the Unions stated, “is against the interest of the people without consultation with their respective members and stakeholders.”
In the meeting chaired by Itingtiebe GB, the members thoroughly deliberated on the 7 days’ notice served to the President of the PTWCU and the Head GB to withdraw the signature appended on the representation submitted to the office of Commissioner Nagaland seeking for release of the structure compensation.
According to a press release from the Unions, after deliberation, the House resolved that due to their failure to comply with the notice served, “it was found necessary to take punitive action against the two individuals.”
As such the house unanimously adopted a resolution to have them impeached from their respective post as President PTWCU and Head GB through voice vote. And that the powers and functions executed by them by virtue of the post shall be withdrawn effective immediately.
The house further resolved that the powers and functions of the President and the Head GB shall now be delegated to the Secretaries of the Unions. And that the two Unions shall, in their convenient time at a later date, elect their President and Head GB, the release added.
The two Unions also appealed to the state government to stop entertaining third parties in the assessment committee which they said, has been the sole cause of all the problems in the imbroglio. “It is pertinent to note that the involvement of few vested individuals misusing their office as President, without the support and consent of the other office bearers and stakeholders has been a cause of concern,” the Unions stated.
While the affected landowners should have been primarily involved on this issue, it has now become an issue of third parties in the name of various organisations. In this regard, we reiterate that the state government should take utmost care while accommodating individuals in the assessment committee, they added.
