Inauguration of public park cum botanical garden in Mon

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 16 (MExN): Nagaland Minister for Environment Forests & Climate Change, CL John inaugurated a public park cum botanical garden in Forest Colony, Mon developed by the Mon Forest Division. 

The Minister appreciated the efforts of Mon Forest Division being the pioneer in coming up with such idea since there is no park in Mon Town till date. He also talked about the extension of this public park and botanical garden in coming days. He acknowledged the uniqueness of the State  which more than 90% land are privately owned under customary laws and given constitutional protection under article 371A, due to which sometimes it becomes difficult to implement development activities. 

However, he requested all wards representatives to come forward and co-operate with government departments through land donations for such parks in other parts of Mon Town. The Wagiem Ward park is only the starting point, being first of such kind in Mon Town, he said. He further appraised about the challenges faced by the department in conserving forest and wildlife, and called upon the people to quit hunting of wild animals. He also encouraged the children to use such parks as a platform to learn and grow physically and mentally for recreational purposes

Rajesh Kumar, IFS, DFO Mon while welcoming all the dignitaries, acknowledged the efforts of division officials and staffs for their sincere works during the development of this park. Kaihong Konyak, UDA, Mon requested action on other urgent infrastructure needs inside the colony to the Minister.

Chingam Konyak, Hd. GB, Wagiem Ward while praising the department for developing this park, promised to co-operate and collaborate with the Forest Department in keeping and maintaining public park as it also falls under Wagiem Ward. 

Ponglem Konyak, President, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) appreciated the efforts of the department for coming up with such an idea where children and students can play. 

Temjennaro Longkumer, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) cum Administrator, Mon Town Council encouraged the individuals present to plant more trees since planting of trees is not only for aesthetic purposes but also for health benefits and to combat the climate change. She also emphasized on the cleanliness and the waste treatment, encouraging Mon town community to adopt a healthy life style.
