Pungro students warn against disturbing ecology

DIMAPUR, FEB 14 (MExN): In its bid to preserve the environment, the Pungro Area College Students’ Union (PACSU) has resurfaced its resolution number 4(four) of 2002-03 where it is mentioned that within the union’s jurisdiction, Flora and Fauna ( decorative stones or any other raw material)  which the area feels important/ necessary  will be preserved. A penalty of Rs. 5000/- (Rupees Five Thousand) will be imposed on defaulters and Rs. 7500/- (Rupees Seven Thousand Five Hundred) to defaulters who had registered their membership to the office of the union and subsequently the goods will be seized accordingly.

“Further the union had also adopted a resolution on hunting and fishing which was circulated late last year. It prohibits the hunting of any wild animals and birds including using of chemicals for aquatic animals,” the release said. The step was taken in order to preserve the rich natural resources which are fading away day by day, according to the PACSU. The union had also directed the respective village students’ union to take effective measures to implement and compliance with the above resolution. The union has also appealed to the neighboring areas/blocks under Kiphire district to not enter the union’s jurisdiction with guns and chemicals meant for hunting purpose.

As per the complaint received from the Pungro area, large-scale hunting and fishing is being practiced by people from neighbouring areas/villagers. “The union also recorded the highest accident occurred last year while hunting where 4 (four) persons died in the jungle,” the release said. The real cause of the deaths is still not known. “In order to overcome these dangers, the union totally bans hunting in the area (Pungro) from other blocks. Any casualties met out to the defaulters in the union jurisdiction will not be held responsible by the area.”
