Push for digitisation: Mon gets IT boost under Aadhaar enrolment initiative

Mon, April 26 (MExN): The District Economics and Statistics Office (DESO), Mon, on April 24 distributed IT equipment under the Birth Registration-Based Aadhaar Enrolment Initiative to strengthen digital civil registration systems in the district. The distribution programme was held at the DC’s Conference Hall in Mon, a DIPR update informed.

Additional Director of Economics and Statistics, Nagaland, Charles Kikon said the initiative aims to enhance the grassroots digital registration system by enabling a faster, more accurate and fully online process for maintaining vital statistics. He informed that Mon district has been provided with 33 IT sets and urged officials and staff to utilise the resources effectively.

Addressing the gathering, ADC Mon Pakon Phom emphasised the importance of birth and death certificates as essential legal documents containing key personal details. Stating that Aadhaar registration remains low in the district, he encouraged officials to raise awareness among the public, noting that Aadhaar is crucial for accessing various government schemes and benefits.

He called upon concerned officials to discharge their responsibilities with sincerity to ensure accurate demographic records, and urged citizens to utilise government facilities professionally. Phom also expressed gratitude to the state government and the Department of Economics and Statistics for allocating the highest number of IT sets to Mon district. Later, Pakon launched the Aadhar Registration of Children in the age group of 0 – 5 years.

SDO (Civil) Nchumthung Ezung described the distribution of IT equipment as a significant step towards strengthening the civil registration system, reflecting a collective commitment to digitisation, transparency and efficiency in public service delivery.

He said birth and death registration is a fundamental governance responsibility that provides legal identity, supports planning and policymaking, and ensures that every citizen is counted. With the introduction of modern IT infrastructure, he added, record-keeping will improve and services will become faster and more accurate.

Ezung further noted that the initiative would enable real-time data management and align the district with the broader vision of Digital India and good governance.

Providing an update on digitisation in the district, Wangmoi Konyak, in-charge of Births and Deaths at DESO Mon, said there are 154 registration units in the district, of which 98 villages are actively conducting online registration of births and deaths.

He informed that since the introduction of online registration, a total of 2,605 new births have been registered, 2,671 old birth certificates digitised, and 51 deaths recorded.
