PWD minister Tongpang Ozüküm inspects road repair works in Longleng

Dimapur, May 31 (MExN): Nagaland minister for Public Works Department, Tongpang Ozüküm paid a maiden visit to Longleng headquarters on May 31 and inspected the current construction and repair works within the district headquarters.  

He inspected the entire district headquarters roads under repair and visited all the roads that were earlier earmarked for repair and maintenance.  

Executive Engineer of Longleng, SB Angh said that a minister’s visit to the area in almost a decade to personally oversee the needs of the department and the people was a blessing and extended all possible service towards the successful completion of the project, the release added.  

He also informed that the government has allotted about Rs. one crore for Longleng division, which has around 12 important roads out of which 3 main roads – main town road about 2.2 km, medical road about 1.3 km, and the road leading to DC Bungalow about 1.8 km – were selected on priority considering public convenience. The same project includes construction of CC drainage and re-construction of culverts in various locations, he added.  

After the inspection, the minister held a meeting with department officials, the district administration, NGOs including Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC), Phom Students’ Conference and district public leaders.  

According to the release, PPC submitted a three-point representation to the minister for creation of SDO PWD (R&B) for Tamlu, up-gradation of JE PWD (Housing) under Tuensang sub-division to SDO PWD (Housing) Longleng, and up-gradation of JE PWD (Mechanical) under Mokokchung division to SDO PWD (Mechanical) Longleng.  

The PPC also apprised of the pending Longleng-Pongo road project amounting to Rs. 50 lakhs, which was assured by the then Roads and Bridges minister, Vikheho Swu. It noted that the department previously sanctioned Rs 28 lakhs, while Rs 22 lakhs is pending and requested the minister to press the concerned authorities to look into the matter.  

Clarifying the doubts of the people on road repairs, Minister Tongpang informed that the present project was mainly for filling up of potholes. However, he said that filling up potholes in the district headquarters were being undertaken with premix bituminous carpeting of the roads.  

The minister was accompanied by Executive Engineer, Junior Engineer, Housing & Mechanical, Deputy Commissioner, and ADC of Longleng and other public and government officials.
