‘Quality is non- negotiable’

National seminar on ‘The best practices in higher education for quality management’ underway

Kohima, March 24 (MExN): Two-day national seminar on ‘The best practices in higher education for quality management’ organized by IQAC, St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama and Sponsored by UGC-NAAC started on March 24.   The keynote speaker for the seminar Dr. B.S. Madhukar, Advisor NAAC, Bangalore presented his presentation stating that ‘quality is non- negotiable’ and how a teacher plays a vital role towards achieving quality education and how autonomy leads to employability.  

A press note stated that during the inaugural session, Dr. Medonuo Pienyu, HoD, Sociology Department, welcomed the gathering and the keynote speaker for the seminar, Dr. B.S. Madhukar. It was followed by lighting of the lamp by Dr. B.S. Madhukar, Rev. Fr. Sebastian, Fr. Anthony Dukru, Saju, HoD of Economics Department and Yanphong Konyak, Students’ council president.  

The convener of the seminar Fr. Anthony Dukru delivered a prelude of the college where he quoted that ‘education is an indication of human development.’ He quoted that ‘to implement higher education, quality education is needed’ and said that the students should demand for higher education.  

Rev. Fr. Sebastian Ousepparampil, principal of the college delivered the presidential address where he threw light upon the need of quality education in this century. He also highlighted some characteristics in working towards quality education. He further quoted that ‘implementation of quality education is the Achilles heel of best practice.’  

A dance was also performed by Kalivi and friends before James H.K, Head, Department of English, delivered the vote of thanks. The master of ceremony was Zeineikho Pfukha, Head, Department of History. The cultural association of St .Joseph’s College presented an ethnic cultural fusion dance signifying the cultural unity despite cultural diversity. A special number was presented by Moa.  

The first technical session of the day followed after the lunch break where Fr. Dr. Anand SJ, Local Representative, IQAC member was the Chairperson; and that there will be two more sessions on March 25. It is attended by various dignitaries and faculty members from different colleges in and around Nagaland.
