Governor calls for equal respect to alternative medicines

Even as the State Governor, PB Acharya inaugurated the advanced Radiotherapy Centre at Christian Institute of Health Sciences & Research (CIHSR) in Dimapur on May 22, he emphasized on the need to have equal respect for all other alternative medicines like Ayush and alike.  

Speaking at the programme, Acharya pointed out that cancer was becoming rampant in the state with cancer patients increasing day by day and expressed appreciation to the Tata Trust for investing in the noble cause. The radiotherapy center at CISHR is the 200 installation in the country, funded by Jamseti Tata Trust Mumbai.  

He said that with the inauguration of Radiotherapy at CIHSR Dimapur, cancer patients need not go far away for treatments. However, he added that there was a higher task for the medical fraternity to address the issue of cancer towards leading to a cancer free society.  

Acharya also called for the various researches made in different fields to be applied to the society and not to be shelved. In this regard, the Governor called for all institutes to come together and review the situation towards changing the system.  

Business Director of Varian, Malti, Sachdev said that the Radiotherapy Centre at CIHSR was the 200th in the country set up by Varian under the aegis of Tata Trust.  

CHISR Dimapur Director, Dr. Sedevi Angami in his welcome address dedicated the Centre to the people of Nagaland and the region.  

HOD, Radiotherapy Venter CIHSR, Dr Shanthi Matilda said that Radiation Ontology will play a major role to cancer patients with the state of the art equipment given by Tata Trust and backed by medical professionals. The institute choir presented the institutional theme song.
