Rahul Gandhi hits back at Modi over corruption charges

Newmai News Network IMPHAL |  Febraury 28   AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi addressed a huge election rally here on Tuesday to campaign for Congress for the ensuing crucial Manipur assembly polls during which he hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP over charges of corruption against Okram Ibobi Singh headed Government.   “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to fulfill his promises in two and a half years in office. National Highway 37 here is not different from what it is despite the promise made by Modi,” Rahul said at the rally at Hapta Kangjeibung.   Rahul said that the Modi government said ‘Acche Din’ will come but there is no National Highway, sports university and sports stadium as promised.   “There are no good days because the Modi government has failed to usher in Acche Din,” he said.   Rahul said the power innovation of Okram Ibobi Singh government confused Modi.   He said the world said that prepaid electricity system is the right way to solve power problem and now “Modi see it in Manipur.”   “The prepaid electricity introduced in Manipur had caused confusion to Modi,” Rahul said while highlighting various achievements of the Congress government under Ibobi Singh.   The Gandhi scion attacked Modi over the Framework Agreement signed between the Centre and NSCN (IM), saying Modi claimed he did a historic deed in signing this 'agreement'.   “We’ve learnt that only Modi knows what was in the agreement. Even his ministers said they knew nothing about it. Most importantly, Manipur CM Ibobi was not consulted on the 'agreement'. What has been given away and what has actually been done through the 'agreement' are known to Modi,” Rahul said.   The AICC leader promised that only the Congress will safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.   Rahul further attacked the Modi government’s recent demonetization initiative which Rahul said had destroyed life of people, particularly farmers and labourers.   “If Modi is after black money, there are real estates, Swiss Bank accounts and gold which were left out. He should have targeted the 50 richest persons in India. Why he did not go after them?” he asked. Farmers, labourers and sincere people were made to stand outside banks after demonetization and “we did not see affluent individuals in the lines,” he said.   He hit back at PM Modi over charges of corruption he had levelled against CM Ibobi and said there was not a single proof. Modi addressed an election rally here on February 25.   “Modiji, you take money and the proof is in white papers. Why don’t you initiate enquiry into it?” Rahul asked.   Rahul said Modi has a habit of inciting enmity between different groups wherever he goes and asked him to not indulge in such a practice.   “Modi, you’re Prime Minister of the country and so don’t create hatred between communities in Manipur. You should rather talk about love and brotherhood. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Modi want to destroy the individuality, history and language of Manipur. But Congress will not let it happen, he said.   Meanwhile, Rahul promised that Manipur will continue to go ahead under Congress and Ibobi Singh.   Polls to the state assembly are scheduled to take place in two-phases on March 4 and 8.
